Windham Connecticut (06256, 06280, 06266, 06226) is a large town made up of four parts: North Windham, Windham Center, South Windham, and Willimantic. Located in the center of Eastern Connecticut, Windham is easily accessible to all the major markets of the northeast: 28 miles from Hartford, 47 miles to Providence, 96 miles from Boston, and 130 miles to New York. The area is less than an hour’s drive from the beaches of Connecticut and Rhode Island. It is also within easy driving distance of the ski resorts of northern New England and the lakes, streams, hiking trails, fishing, hunting, and camping areas available throughout Connecticut and the rest of New England. The majority of Windham has historically remained a farming community, with the most heavily populated areas in Windham Center and Willimantic. Windham Center Historic District is 205-acre area in the town that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It includes a significant concentration of Greek Revival style architecture, including the Windham Free Library.
