Willimantic CT Real Estate

Willimantic Connecticut (06226) is a city within the town of Windham. It is also known as “Thread City,” based on its history as a center for the production of silk and cotton thread. You’ll know you’re in Willimantic when you cross over “The Frog Bridge,” a landmark adorned with eight foot high bronze frogs atop concrete thread spools. The spools on the bridge represent Willimantic’s prominence in cotton thread and silk manufacturing, and the Frogs represent the Great Swamp Fight of 1754, in which Windham residents supposedly fired on a pond because they mistook frog calls for Indian war signals. While keeping the history alive, the city today is abundant with museums, and is also home to Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU). Willimantic is also just a few miles from the University of Connecticut Storrs Campus. Willimantic is best known for its high concentration of Victorian homes.
